Canadian Grand Prix

Michael Schumacher won his 5th race of the season, as once again he showed that he is the best driver in the wet. He lead from the start after securing pole position in Saturday's qualifying.

He lead his Ferrari team mate Rubens Barrichello to the teams second 1 - 2 of the season.

The rain came down half way through the race and all drivers had to pit for wet weather tires. The wet conditions made it difficult to pass and many of the drivers went off the track.

After Schumacher and Coulthard had secured 1st and 2nd positions on the grid, it looked like the race was going to become an absorbing battle between the championship leaders, but it all started to go wrong for the McLaren star, right from the start.

His car had a clutch problem whilst on the grid and he needed assistance from his mechanics as the cars were setting off for the instalation lap. He eventually got away but a rule stating that all mechanics should leave the grid 30 seconds before the lap is underway. This meant that the Scot ended up with a ten-second stop-go penalty, destroying any chances of him winning the race.

As Coulthard headed in to the pits to take the penalty, Schumacher had a commanding lead over the rest of the field and was able to race away to glory.

He was able to take his pit stop and get back on to the track, just behind his Ferrari team mate who had yet to stop. Once Barrichello pitted, Schumacher raced into the distance. Barrichello, who got out of the pits into second position, followed Schumacher and finished in second place.
